Radon reduction systems for Chicago homes
A high radon result is common in Illinois — and very fixable. The proven solution is active soil depressurization: a sealed vent pipe and a continuously running fan that pull radon from beneath your foundation and release it safely above the roof.
AirFresh Inc. is a locally owned company in nearby Northbrook, designing and installing radon mitigation systems across Chicago and Chicagoland. Every system is custom-fit to your home and guaranteed to bring your level below the EPA action level of 4.0 pCi/L. Not tested yet? Start with radon testing.

A proven, standards-based process — usually done in a single day.
-
1
Diagnose & assess
We review your radon results and inspect your foundation, sump, and layout to find the best system design.
-
2
Design a custom system
Every home is different. We plan the suction point and the cleanest, most discreet route for the vent pipe.
-
3
Seal entry points
We seal major radon entry points — foundation cracks, the sump pit, and gaps around pipes — for maximum performance.
-
4
Install the suction point
We create a suction point beneath the slab so the system can draw radon from the soil before it enters your home.
-
5
Route the vent pipe & fan
An inline fan and vent pipe carry radon up and release it safely above the roofline, away from windows and doors.
-
6
Confirm with a follow-up test
We verify your new levels with a post-installation radon test, guaranteed to come in below 4.0 pCi/L.
Guaranteed below 4.0 pCi/L
We stand behind our work: your radon mitigation system is guaranteed to reduce your home's radon below the EPA action level of 4.0 pCi/L, confirmed with a follow-up test after installation.

"Our inspection flagged radon at almost 8 pCi/L. AirFresh designed a system, installed it in one morning, and the follow-up test came back well under the action level. Clean install and they explained everything."

"The fan is honestly silent — I forget it's even there. They routed the pipe neatly along the side of the house and it looks tidy. Radon went from 6.2 down to under 1.0. Couldn't be happier."

"We needed mitigation done fast to close on our house and they made it happen on our timeline. Professional, fairly priced, and the documented retest kept our sale on track. Highly recommend."

Radon mitigation FAQs
How does radon mitigation work?
The most common and effective method is active soil depressurization. We create a suction point beneath your foundation slab, seal major radon entry points, and install a vent pipe with a continuously running inline fan. The fan draws radon from under the home and vents it safely above the roofline before it can enter your living space.
How long does installation take?
Most residential radon mitigation systems are installed in a single day, often in just a few hours. The exact time depends on your foundation type, the layout of your home, and the best route for the vent pipe. We'll confirm the plan and timing when we assess your home.
Will a system really lower my radon level?
Yes. A properly designed system is highly effective, and we guarantee it will bring your radon below the EPA action level of 4.0 pCi/L. We confirm the result with a follow-up radon test after installation so you have documented proof the system is working.
Is the radon fan loud?
No. Radon fans are designed to run quietly and continuously. When installed correctly the fan produces only a soft hum, and it's usually located outside or in an attic or garage, so it's barely noticeable inside the home.
Does the system use a lot of electricity?
Very little. A typical radon mitigation fan uses about the same power as a standard light bulb and runs continuously, so the added cost to your electric bill is minimal compared to the health protection it provides.
How much does radon mitigation cost?
Cost depends on your foundation type, home layout, and the system design needed to bring your levels down. Because every home is different, we provide a free, no-obligation quote after reviewing your situation. Request a quote and we'll give you a clear, upfront price.
Does the system need maintenance?
Radon systems are low maintenance. A U-tube manometer on the vent pipe shows at a glance that the fan is working, and fans generally last many years before needing replacement. We recommend retesting every couple of years and after any major renovation to confirm levels stay low.
Do newly built homes still need mitigation?
Sometimes. Many newer Illinois homes are built with a passive radon system (piping with no fan). If a test shows elevated radon, that passive system can often be activated by adding a fan. Testing is the only way to know whether any home — new or old — needs mitigation.
